Dorm Room & Small Bedroom Essentials
Share
Dorm rooms and small bedrooms have the same problem: the bed is also the desk, the sofa and the dining table, and there's nowhere to put anything. These are the pieces we'd pick to make a small room work harder, whether you're heading to college or making the most of a compact apartment.
No room for a nightstand? Hang one on the bed
A hanging bedside caddy hooks onto a bed rail and keeps the phone, charger, glasses and water bottle within reach. It's made for beds with a rail or frame edge, which includes most loft and dorm beds. It also comes as a 2-pack for bunk beds or shared rooms.
Stop losing things behind the bed
If the bed is pushed against a wall, pillows and phones end up in the gap. A bed gap filler wedge fills gaps of up to 7 inches and doubles as a backrest for reading or laptop time, with side pockets for a remote or glasses.
A table that folds away
A bamboo bed tray with folding legs works as a laptop stand in the evening and a breakfast tray on the weekend, then folds flat to about 1.6 inches thick to slide under the bed.
One device instead of four
Space on a small nightstand goes fast. The bedside clock speaker combines a clock, alarm, Bluetooth speaker, mood light and a wireless charging pad for Qi phones in one unit, about 6 inches wide.
Light without rewiring
Most rentals and dorms don't let you install fixtures. A wireless motion-sensor light bar fits under a shelf or inside a wardrobe with no wiring and recharges over USB, and a sunset projector lamp adds a warm glow to the wall for the evening.
